The Sikh Wars Flag Collection
Battle Flags of the British Army, the Honorable East India Company, & The Khalsa!
Available for 28mm, 20mm, 15mm,
and 6mm Scales

From the fertile mind (and CAD-machine eyes) of sculptor and rules author, Chris Ferree, comes this unique accessory for Colonial War gamers of the Sikh Wars of 1845-46, and 1848-49. Developed over several years as part of research and development of the war game rules, John Company: The Conquest of India, 1750-1860 , these superb reproductions will make the already colorful armies both more beautiful and historically accurate.

Regimental/Battalion Flags are now available representing the full historical Order of Battle for the British Regular and Honorable East India Company's Bengal Native Infantry (BNI), and other units which fought in the First and Second Sikh Wars. The British Army set includes both Queen's and Colonel's Colors, based on the Warrant of 1844, and as they appeared at this point in their unit histories. (As neither the British Regular nor Company Artillery or Cavalry carried Standards in the field in this era, none are provided.)

Regular Sikh Infantry Flags Sample Page But now, for the first time, the Colors of all 36 Sikh Regular Infantry Paltans and 7 Cavalry Regiments in the First War are now available. All seven Regular Brigades on the Khalsa Durbar Records when the First Sikh War began are listed with the Colors for each Paltan comprising them, including the Tricolors flown by the crack Fauj-I-Khas Brigade that saw action at Aliwal.

Due to the changing number of flags per page as they become smaller in scale, Studio 33 has chosen to provide the maximum "bang for your bucks" by increasing the number of Sikh Irregular Standards wherever possible. As the number of these units, Horse, Foot, and Guns, was enormous, it is practically impossible to have "too many" of these Standards. Therefore, the actual number of flags in each set for each scale will vary and is listed below.

All flags are printed in full color on 24-lb bond paper for the right weight and best texture. The detail is excellent in the larger scales, and all are printed with both sides showing, ready to cut out, fold, glue to the staff, and fold to the shape you prefer (flat, partially furled, etc).

Interest in the Sikh Wars is growing, and with the release of John Company (which specifically covers the Sikh Wars, among others) and the promise of more figure lines in the future, these represent only the beginning. Many of these flags will cross over directly into the Mutiny, and more will be produced for the First Afghan War and other campaigns. Indeed, many of the Irregular Sikh Standards will fit quite comfortably among Afghan warriors!

British Army Colors, First and Second Sikh Wars includes:
Regular Battalions of foot, First Sikh War: 9th East Norfolk, 10th North Lincolnshire, 29th Worcestershire, 31st Huntingdonshire, 50th West Kent, 53rd Shropshire, 62nd Wiltshire, and the 80th Staffordshire Volunteers .

Second Sikh War:
10th Foot (again), 24th (or 2nd Warwickshire), the 29th (again), 32nd Cornwall, 60th Royal American Rifles, 61st South Gloucestershire, and the 98th North Staffordshire.

Sikh Colors
Two more sets represent the Colors and Standards carried by units of the Khalsa . Together, these contain at least 94 detailed copies of captured examples still in existence, and others based on contemporary illustrations from such sources as The Illustrated London News . Some are more frankly conjectural, though perfectly consistent with known patterns.

Unfortunately, the best potential source on flag regulations for the Khalsa is still among the "Dead Sikh Scrolls" in Patiala or Lahore which are still being hunted down by Mr. Ferree, his co-author, Patrick Wilson, and a number of other stalwarts.

Khalsa Regular Unit Colors
